El-com Services, Inc. was founded by Dan & Verlie Smith or Marquette, MI, and began serving the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1974. El-Com began in Marquette as an RCA company, who was a leader in the two-way radio industry at the time, and El-Com was the RCA “dealer of the year” in 1976. The company installed a community repeater and secured the maintenance contract at the K.I. Sawyer USAF base, which was located nearby. This major awarded contract for 1000 radios stabilized El-Com over the next 21 years and helped lead to a partnership with Motorola Solutions .
Elcom began working with Motorola Solutions in 1980 as part of BayCom out of Green Bay, WI. Due to the remote aspect of the U.P., BayCom sold the business back to the Smiths. The Smith’s also purchased Motorola Radio shops in Sault Ste. Marie and Ontonagon, MI, both founded in 1949. This gave El-Com a strong presence by having shops located in the East, West and Central U.P.
Today Elcom Systems, owned by Gregory & Lisa Place of Marquette, MI and is a full service communication provider. The marketing area for our services includes all of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and part of Northern Wisconsin. Elcom has shops located in Marquette, Iron Mountain and Sault Ste Marie Michigan. We offer analysis, consultation, sales, service and ongoing maintenance to meet all of our customer’s needs by offering a vast array of Motorola products while also representing other vendors such as; David Clark, SetCom, Sound-Off, Harris, Whelan, Cambium, Unication, Diablo-Royale, Setina and others. Our radio systems are designed for; law, fire, EMS, public transportation, universities, power companies, manufacturing, mines, trucking companies and more. Products such as MOTOTRBO digital radio, dispatch consoles, P25 Mission, public safety equipment, repeater systems, pagers, WAVE technology systems, radio accessories, lights, sirens, LED lights, push bars, etc. are sold/installed/maintained/monitored by our experienced staff with a combined experience of over 200 years of experience.
